And with the power of the PlayStation 3 ramping up the visuals even more, Resident Evil 5 looks to be stunning and unique in its visual approach to horror. It’s also been called a next-gen remake of Resident Evil 4, meaning if you missed out on Leon Kennedy’s expedition into the creepy backwater Spanish countryside, you’ll get your chance at seeing what all the fuss was about (and probably a whole lot more).

Before the official announcement, people were asking, “Are they making Resident Evil 5 on PlayStation 3?” Luckily there’s no 360 or Wii exclusive going on here. And the PS3 version could end up being the definitive version with power-under-the-hood superiority that the PS3 boasts.

Not a whole lot is known about the game yet, but there are some snippets of information. We know it takes place ten years after the events of the original Resident Evil, with Chris Redfield returning as the protagonist. This time he ends up answering a mysterious disturbance in an area supposedly called Kijuju somewhere in Africa. He’ll discover that the villagers aren’t exactly putting together a warm welcome. It seems a nearby volcano has in some way released the latest sinister virus that turns ordinary people into not-quite-zombie killers.
